Ancient Cultures

The Paquimé culture was part of the Mogollon culture, which included the Gila Cliff Dwellings.  These ancient peoples traded with the Anasazi, which included the people from Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon and with the Hohokam people at Pueblo Grande and Casa Grande.

The name Mogollon comes from the Mogollon Mountains, which were named after Don Juan Ignacio Flores Mogollón, Spanish Governor of New Mexico from 1712-1715.
