Ana Veloz Casas
We met Ana several years ago at Marta's B&B in Mata Ortiz. When Marta had guests, she asked her relatives to assist in serving the meals -- and to keep her company as we rattled on in English. As it turns out, we met her dad and brother in the early 2010's on our trips to the village. We had no idea that Ana was also a potter until 2020!
Lovely traditional matte finish red clay decorated with the delicate Paquime designs are wonderful examples of this ancient culture. The natural white slip is obvious. Look closely and you will detect very thin lines of black slip adding another interest to this pot. Designs vary on these but the unadorned necks are the same.
Ramiro Veloz Gutierrez, Sr, taught his daughter Ana Veloz Casas and son Ramiro Veloz Casas, Jr, how to pot. The family home is on the main street across from the train station.
